Support System

I've been really feeling the love from my friends lately and it has inspired me to write another blog this week about friendship. Most importantly, support systems. I don't have much of a family or even a home anymore, but I have realized that home is not a place. It is a feeling when you are surrounded by the people who want the best for you.

Where would we be without our friends? Where would we be without our inner support system? The folks who got yo' back — for real. Life is so much better when shared with those you love and those who love you. Life is beautiful, but it's also crazy. We go through many twists, turns, experiences and happenings as we move through our days. What’s more comforting than having real, authentic, genuine love and support from those who simply want nothing more, than for you to thrive and be happy? It’s necessary for us as human beings to have a tribe that holds our individual efforts up, which in turn benefits the collective at whole.

Find the people who see you and uplift you: friends, teachers, mentors, peers, family and romantic relationships. People who “get you.”  Ones who you can communicate with or without using words and laugh deep from your belly. I’ll take quality over quantity any day. Not every single human you meet is going to be your best friend. Acquaintances, business associates, clients, employers, employees and new friends all have their role. How special it is when a new friend becomes a good friend, to a best friend, to family!

Don’t take these bonds and connections for granted. We’ve been given a gift called life to meet these people who we hold close to our hearts because we love them and they love us. Create strong bonds with those you choose to keep close. Just like the Beatles say, “We get by with a little help from our friends.”
