The Blog with the Injuries
Since the semi accident, I've been sharing a lot of my story to people who ask me "what happened." The usual response I give is, "I'm ok! Just some bruises and bumps." But truth be told? I've been lying for the past two weeks so people wouldn't worry about me. Typical Jen thing is to put everyone else first and this time it was so different. It looks like I am on the end of the road to recovery for the most part so I wanted to share my actual injuries from the accident. Not just the "bumps and bruises" response. I'm very thankful to be alive and with no broken bones! That is the most important part.
Left Knee:
I've been on and off of crutches for the past few weeks. (my athletic training friends will KILL me for not using them.) I've been on crutches because I have a partially torn MCL on my left knee. The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is a broad, thick band that runs down the inner part of the knee, from the femur (thighbone) to about four to six inches from the top of the tibia (shinbone). Every morning, I have to wrap my knee to keep the swelling down and I have to do rest, ice, and elevate.
My hands/palms:
Apparently I thought I was riding a bull while in this accident. Because both of my palms were bruised and one was cut up. How this happened? The only thing I can even think of is gripping the steering wheel and the damage to my left was was when I tried to punch my jammed door open. Newsflash: it doesn't work. I work with my hands all day so it is extremely important that I get my strength back to normal with this. I've lost so much grip strength since the accident that it hurts to pick up my phone. But I've been doing little range of motion things and keeping things moving and on 11/22/2017 I SNAPPED! That is right. I was able to put enough strength together to snap my fingers with my left hand. The right one? I have to work more of the wrist rehab to get more movement.
Other:
My left side took most of the damage. I don't have a picture of the huge bruise on my left hip because well, hello....thats getting up and personal with my booty. I have a random gash out of the right leg, I had a bruised forehead, black eye, and overall body pain. Which was the WORST! I got stuck on the toilet. I got stuck in bed. I got stuck in a car...again. Heck, I EVEN got stuck in the shower. But I stayed moving. A lot. Rest does the body good, but I didn't want to just stay in bed and become the piece of wood from Ed, Edd, and Eddy. (Sorry for the bits of hair you can probably see on my leg. Its hard to shave your legs when you get hit by a semi.

I know things could have been worse! And I am thankful that things ended the way they did. I could have lost my life. This blog is more for my athletic trainer friends who wanted to see what was actually wrong with me without me taking off my pants in the middle of a college dance marathon. And a huge thank you to everyone who kept complimenting me!! I have a lot of things racing in my mind. My mind being cleared up is going to take a lot longer to heal than the physical. But for those of you who told me, "The blood matches your manicure." "Your makeup still looks good!" "You make crutches look cute." "At least your eyebrows look good." THANK YOU FOR YOUR KINDNESS AND MAY GOOD KARMA BE COMING YOUR WAY SOON!
