STFU, Elsa!
It's summer here in Ohio. It is hot on most days in almost every location of the state, except inside my body. Why? I am always cold. Having a hypothyroid and being anemic helps me become a walking ice cube. It is literally an endless winter inside my body. I LOVE WINTER, but I hate being cold. This doesn’t even make since…I know.
The rising temperatures and rays of golden sun shining down on us mean nothing to my freezing fingers, ice cube-like toes, or the endless supply of long sleeve/pant combos I have. Some people are naturally inclined/doomed to always feel cold, of course — but sometimes, feeling permafrosted from the inside out is a sign of a serious health problem.
Most of the time, feeling a tad chilly is nothing to worry about, especially if you're a woman. The idea of a woman rubbing her permanently cold feet on her much warmer male partner isn't a just fabricated sitcom stereotype — women tend to feel more sensitive to the cold than men, because estrogen can sometimes reduce the flow of blood to our extremities. And since the temperature of our extremities tend to control how the rest of our bodies feel, cold hands can lead you to feel chilled all over.
So the next time you hear me complain that I am cold don’t respond with, “I’m not! It’s 72’ in the room.” That doesn’t mean anything to me. Thug Life? More like drop the “T” and come here! Seriously, it’s because I need body warmth. Gives me a good reason to always be curled up in a soft blanket & snug.
