Very Superstitious
Do you avoid cracks in the pavement or are you afraid to cross the road when you see a black cat? Most people won’t walk under a ladder, because that one actually makes sense! I mean, seriously. I’m not walking under a ladder. But, for some people, superstitions can actually take over their lives. I’m not VERY superstitious and I’m not a huge believer of the zodiac signs either. All I know is I am a Leo…hear me roar. With today being a full moon and Friday the 13th, I figured it was a good time to blog about being….*cue music* very superstitious.
If you believe too much in superstitions, you can become a slave to them. You might begin to make decisions based upon superstition, rather than on fact and that is not a healthy way to run your life. But the truth is that there is absolutely no proof whatsoever that superstitions are grounded in fact.
Prime Example: The penny. This is one of the only superstition things I believe in. There you are, walking along the street and minding your own business. You’re deep in thought about the kinds of thoughts kids usually think about…you’re not paying much attention to where you’re going, since your head is down and your eyes are focused on the pavement or your phone. Suddenly, a slight gleam catches your eye. What’s that? It’s a penny! Should you pick it up? Before you decide, you first lean down to get a closer look. Is it heads up? Or is it tails up? "Find a penny, pick it up. All day long, you'll have good luck." Some people believe it’s only good luck to pick up a penny if heads is showing. A penny with the tails side up should be turned over for another person to find. On the other hand, many people believe any penny you find is good luck. But think about it. How is a penny supposed to give you good luck? I’m totally guilty of doing this penny thing to. One year for a resolution, I placed a penny on heads everyday for a year for others to have good luck. But TBH, you are more likely to put your back out, than you are to have good luck for the rest of the day.
Anywho, the fear of Friday the 13th, or of the bad luck that a broken mirror will bring, can become so real, for some people, that it can cause serious anxiety and panic attacks. And a lucky rabbit’s foot? That is not what brings you luck, you do! If you believe too much in superstitions, then you might be leaving too much to fate, and not making enough of your own luck.
If you have convinced yourself that you are in for a day of bad luck, then that will affect how you act for the rest of the day.
If you really think about it, there are many occasions where your superstitions have failed you, but you probably only remember the times that they have come true. In fact, the number of times that the number thirteen has cropped up in your life and caused you no problem whatsoever, will far outweigh the times that you have blamed it for something bad happening.
Most superstitions are based on predicting the future in some way, but good luck, wealth and happiness cannot be predicted by anyone or anything. You can however plan and work hard to secure the future that you want and, that is no myth at all. 13 is a lucky number in my family, so bring on Friday the 13th!!
