Beer Ballin' on a Budget

Hey, Hey, Hey Readers! So. October is FINALLY here!! Yay for apples, big sweaters, and pumpkin EVERYTHING!!! Just kidding. I am not that big of a pumpkin person. Apples? Yes. I bring this up because with the season changing, so does the drinks! And if you are like me, you enjoy a good seasonal brew. So let us get down to business and talk about the crafts I like to do. Well, crafts I like to drink. Beer is by far one of the most popular and widely consumed drinks in the world. But what do we really know about the golden beverage? I know it is not cheap and I am not rich.

Beer is just like anything else – you get what you pay for. So if you want a good craft beer, get ready to drop a pretty penny. It’s still possible to drink good beer without spending an arm and a leg. Here are a few of my tips on how you can drink good beer on a flat budget.

Learn to settle.
It may be tempting to seek out the higher quality ones out there, but they’re scarcer, and they come at a higher cost. You can still find the good in less-inspiring ones. Between the awful beers and the awe-inspiring beers, there’s a huge selection of good beers to choose from. A few of my cheaper favorites include Schell’s Octoberfest and just about anything made by Rhinegast. If you want me to publish a good list of beer, I shall do so later!

Find the sale.
You can usually find some kind of craft beer on sale. Buy the cheapest one, then just tell yourself you bought it because you have an open mind and the “coriander undertones” sounded intriguing. You can actually end up discovering a lot of good beers this way.

Buy singles.
You can find really good finds as singles. You know...like me. Most liquor stores and grocery stores offer single 22 oz. bottles of good craft beer. Though you won’t get as much bang for your buck, at least you’re spending less. The prices range from a few bucks to up to $15 for the really good stuff, but you can find some good beers on the lower end. Plus, it’s fun to drink out of a giant bottle. I like to pretend I’m really little, and I’m just drinking out of a regular-sized beer bottle. Don’t judge me.

Don’t drink beer.
Say what? Beer is expensive. If it’s a luxury you can’t afford, just don’t drink it. Drink milk or tea instead; they can still help you relax after working a 14-hour day, right? In the winter months, if I’m not drinking beer or wine, I’m most likely drinking tea. You just don’t need the cool, refreshing taste of beer. You can do without the hoppy bitterness that makes your taste buds dance like graceful ballerinas, or the calming effect it offers to you like a kiss blown from a fairy princess. Who REALLY wants that anyway?
